Facebook is falling prey to a widespread phishing attack today that tries to steal your login and spam your friends.

I’ve got a number of messages in my Facebook inbox with links to “FBAction.net”, a site that displays a fake Facebook login. Enter your details there, and it will spam all your friends with the same message and link. More worrying: you might get locked out of your account for a time until Facebook sorts out this mess.

There is no malicious payload with the attack, it seems: no virus is downloaded or any other nasties: it’s simply a huge nuisance for Facebook users.

NEW YORK (AP) — Elizabeth Edwards writes in a new memoir that news of her husband's affair made her vomit in a bathroom.

In the book scheduled to be published May 12, Edwards says her husband, John, admitted to the betrayal just days after declaring his run for president in 2006. She says she wanted him to drop out of the race to protect the family from media scrutiny, but stood by his side anyway.

John Edwards went public with the affair in August after the National Enquirer reported he was the father of videographer Rielle Hunter's daughter.

Tidewater Community College dedicated on Monday a 30,690-square-foot Regional Automotive Center.

But college officials skipped the typical ribbon cutting, opting instead to drive a 2009 Acura through the ribbon.

The facility, located in Oakbrooke Business and Technology Center, just north of Great Bridge, replaces the previous center that was about one-tenth the size, a building that TCC was renting in the Greenbrier section of Chesapeake.

The new center cost $10.1 million, including equipment and furnishings. The city of Chesapeake provided 6.1 acres and some funding.

NEW YORK -- The daily grind of Major League Baseball can create mind games for players, which is one reason Marlins catcher John Baker challenges his mind off the field by figuring out crossword puzzles.

A graduate of the University of California, Baker uses the daily puzzles as a mental breather.

"I think it's important to stay grounded in baseball," Baker said. "But I also think it's important to have an escape, especially when you're going through a streak like we're going through.

"When you lose a few games in a row, when you have something that gets you out of the baseball world and into the fantasy world, some guys do different things."

Another month, another 'Made in China' versus 'Made in Canada' flap regarding another of our national symbols being manufactured outside of the country.
Last month, I reported on a "flag flap" that was brewing in the Ontario Legislature over the Liberal government in the Province of Ontario buying Provincial Flags from a Chinese manufacturer instead of flags being made locally right here in Toronto.

Well, now the Federal Tories are facing their own "flag pin" flap. It is being reported in the Globe & Mail that the federal government has spent over $220,000 on Canadian flag pins that are made in China.

Frank Lloyd Wright's Unity Temple in Oak Park is being named this morning to a list of America's most endangered places, a designation that undoubtedly will draw attention to the plight of the revolutionary but structurally-troubled religious building.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation, based in Washington, D.C., was scheduled to make the announcement at 2 a.m. Central time while making public its annual roster of the nation's 11 most threatened landmarks.

Last year, as the Tribune's Russell Working reported, Unity Temple received a $200,000 federal grant for much-needed repairs to its rusting rebar and crumbling concrete, visible in the accompanying photo.

Severe storms beginning late April 27 into Tuesday have caused flooding in parts of the Houston area.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Cypress Creek at Stuebner-Airline Road area, where it says record flooding has occurred, but expects river levels to decrease throughout the day.

Earlier thunderstorms dropped five to seven inches of rain over the northwest Houston area, and run-off produced the rise in water at Stuebner-Airline Road.

People are cautioned to stay away from the river until the water levels recede, and motorists should avoid any roadways covered with water and find an alternate route.

Maybe he was loopy by the time he got to the Dolphins or maybe he’ll be a soothsayer. But Kiper concludes the Dolphins had one of the worst drafts in the NFL.

Kiper gives Miami a C-minus, tied with Kansas City and ahead of the Cowboys and Raiders, who received ‘D’s’.

Ouch.

Here’s Kiper’s breakdown:

- “Cornerback Vontae Davis is a risk/reward type of player.”

No race this season comes close to this one for excitement. But there's a dark side. Fans were injured, cars were destroyed and drivers were angry.

Unbelievable: Brad Keselowski, a Nationwide Series regular who competes in a few Cup events, was the winner in a finish no one could imagine.

Ok, so living in Texas I didn't get to watch game. RUTS had to go to a wedding in New Jersey or something, so he didn't go or watch. Kevin was either shopping for curtains or going on another one of his weekend benders. Either way he didn't watch the game. So none of us saw the game, but the people expect a recap. And so a recap they shall have. I drew the short straw got elected to put something together, so here are my thoughts from the things I've read and what I see in the boxscore.Daryll Clark looked sharp completing 10-of-13 passes for 123 yards. This isn't really newsworthy, but we should be glad he didn't suck. Otherwise everyone would be pointing fingers at the wideouts and offensive line right now. The coaches pulled him after the first quarter to get the younger guys some work.

kyle maynard fight
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Congenital amputee Kyle Maynard lost his first mixed martial arts fight to Bryan Fry on a 30-27 judges' decision Saturday night.

One of his corner men carried Maynard to the ring on his shoulders, with the camera crew from his documentary in tow, to the cheers of the highly partisan crowd.

Those cheers grew even louder when Maynard propelled himself up the steps and into the ring.

Chants of "KY-LE" erupted throughout the match as well as calls for Fry to "WRES-TLE" Maynard and get down to his level.

But Fry stayed upright and was able to ward off Maynard's many attempts to take his legs out from him.

Maynard used the ring announcer's microphone after the match to thank the fans for coming out to support him and Fry for agreeing to give him his first MMA fight.

Gone is the fusty woman with graying, frizzy hair and a jowly face who joked on air that she had never been kissed, replaced by a stylish, freshly-coiffed lady in fashionable leather jacket and what looks to be a Burberry scarf. The dark, unkempt eyebrows have been shaped and colored.

Fashion experts say she's taken years off her looks, but should think twice about making more improvements, particularly if they go beyond styling and involve artificial enhancements.

"She looks 10 years younger," said Toni Jones, assistant fashion editor at The Sun tabloid newspaper, which featured the new look Boyle on its cover Friday.

pernicious

pernicious

Pernicious anemia is caused by a lack of vitamin B12 in the body. The main reason for the vitamin B12 deficiency is the loss of parietal (pa-RI-e-tal) cells in the lining of the stomach. These cells make intrinsic factor, which helps the body absorb vitamin B12 in the small intestine. In some people, the body's immune system may attack and destroy the parietal cells. Doctors don't know exactly why or how this happens, or if the immune system produces antibodies in reaction to normally aging or dying parietal cells.

As a result of this immune system attack, the stomach lining shrinks, and the parietal cells in the lining of the stomach disappear. The stomach stops producing intrinsic factor. Over time, vitamin B12 deficiency develops.

ANAHEIM – For 82 regular season games, the San Jose Sharks had the best record in the NHL and the league’s third-best power play.

In Game 3 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals against the Ducks, they finally showed why.

The Ducks fought back to tie the game three times, but a Sharks power play goal midway through the third did them in.

After not scoring on 12 power plays in the first two games of the series, San Jose found the net twice, including the lone goal of the third period to down the Ducks 4-3. Anaheim’s lead in the series was trimmed to 2 games to 1, with Game 4 back at Honda Center on Thursday night.

"They are the best team in the league for a reason," said Ducks winger Corey Perry whose third period penalty led to the Sharks' winning goal. "We are still in the driver’s seat and have another game here on Thursday. We are still in great position. We have to use that home-ice to our advantage. If we come out like we did in San Jose, we’re going to alright."

With the score tied 3-3 midway through the third period, San Jose skated 5 on 4 thanks to a hooking call on Perry as he tried to strip the puck from Dan Boyle in the Anaheim zone.

"Schindler's secretariat and office - two rooms connected with each other will be dedicated to Schindler's history, his stay in Kraków, organisation of the factory and his role in the rescue of over 1100 Jews. The secretariat is a strictly documentary area, presenting the complete story of Oscar Schindler. The office is a more symbolic place, a vivid artistic metaphor of Oscar Schindler's deed and its phenomenon. To the arrangement belong the original map and desk, filled with authentic documents (or their copies), items connected with the Factory owner. The main object is a high (reaching the ceiling) glass quadrangle which from the outside appears to be jam-packed with with metal pans pressed in the Factory. However, one can get into it from two sides - into a small circular area - where on a metal wall enclosing the interior of the object, names of the Survivors rescued by Schindler are inscribed. The names are whispered from the speakers. There are thousands of photographs of people from Kraków's ghetto placed on the other walls in the office. The visitor can stop for a while and contemplate the nature and the scale of Schindler's deed; he can also put himself in Schindler's shoes and choose - when you have to arrive at the decision - who can be rescued, who cannot." (Description of future museum arrangement, planned for opening in late 2009).

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Houston Rockets center Dikembe Mutombo said his lengthy career is finished after a knee injury knocked him out of the Rockets' playoff game Tuesday night against the Trail Blazers.

"For me, basketball is over," he said.

Mutombo, an 18-year NBA veteran, appeared to get tangled with Portland center Greg Oden and came down hard on his left leg late in the first quarter of Game 2.

He stayed prone on the court under the Blazers' basket for several moments before he was taken away by stretcher. A preliminary examination revealed a knee strain and he was ruled out the rest of the game.

Afterward in Houston's locker room, the 7-foot-2 veteran was on crutches and fighting back tears.

On Sunday, April 26, 2009, National Geographic will premiere a documentary video on the discovery and investigation of Lyuba, a female woolly mammoth of about one to two months in age who suffocated in a muddy river bed about 40,000 years ago.

The baby mammoth named Lyuba was discovered by the Nenets reindeer herder named Yuri Khudi, in the Yamal peninsula of Siberia. Named after Yuri's wife (her name means "love" in Russian), Lyuba is the most recent of five baby mammoths so far discovered in the arctic. Lyuba is the best preserved baby woolly mammoth ever discovered, trunk, skin, internal organs, hair, all intact and in frankly amazing shape. "Finding ivory is bad luck, but sharing it transforms its power into a force of good," is an old Nenets proverb, and it is central to the meaning of Waking the Baby Mammoth. The main researchers in the video are downright haunted by a CGI reconstruction of Lyuba

Collinsville smoking wives

Collinsville smoking wives

If the “big city” life begins to get to Birmingham(Collinsville smoking wives), waiting for an entirely different world just one hour ’s drive away from the city. Every Saturday the town of Collinsville, near the fort Payne (hometown of the band Alabama and the “self; Sock Capital of the World”), holds a huge flea market called the Collinsville business days. Follow the flow of cars down the U.S. two blocks of 11 to the hill of the Coon Dog. Parking in a field for $ 1 and get ready to add another hour. First, a little history, courtesy of the event ’s Web site: On the banks of the creek in downtown Collinsville in 1902, began a tradition in this sleepy little town of only 1,800. This tradition was called at that time, “Swappers Day” of the horse, and was held every Saturday. The men brought their horses and mules to negotiate and sell. Over the years, the wives began to bring their husbands to sell their handmade items and home-baked. While this reunion exchange grew, it became too big for the city center and was put back to its current location on the day in June 1955. The market now covers 65 acres with over 1,000 vendors and 30,000 buyers who come every Saturday. Items are sold in many different ways to the bed of vendors’ carts, some in cabins or style of the yard sale. I ‘m not sure how it first happened next to this place, but I’ VE AIDS sometimes now, and it ’s always a unique experience. Each visit I see something I ‘ve never seen before. (This isn ‘t always a good thing.) To enter, you cross a bridge rachitic metal on a bed of dried-up creek, garbage-filled, passing the picnic area where the file cabinets of discarded restaurant fast food serve as banks. The market itself consists of rows of stops wood outdoors. Some of the most popular merchandise: weapons, religious phraseology shirts, lots of knives, car parts, paraphernalia confederal flag, socks, toys cheap pirated Cd and DVDs, shoes, kitchenware, antiques (real? ) arrowheads, baseball cards and other collectibles. This market gets rolling early (4: 30 am) and winds down a little after noon. I ‘m not sure what happens here on the pre-dawn hours, as I’ ve never brave a visit in the dark. There may be some great finds that can kill animals in place. The only thing I can suggest is not coming too late, or you ‘ll lack of corn dogs, sold out with the other available here as recently as fried strips of chicken on a hot biscuit or funnel large, hand-apelmaza were damaged along with the “squeeze” fresh lemonade that suspect as evidence the drink’s blend of time in the country. Boiled and roasted peanuts abound. What makes this market different from a standard flea market is the number of live animals for sale, reflecting its history of horse-trade. At the top, the kids love seeing all the animals of the field and puppies for sale. In the handicap, I ‘m pretty sure is where many of this area’ s of the pitbull cockfighting enthusiasts buy their animals. There is an entire section where all the cattle of roosters to hens to goats to small foals can be purchased. But fans of the buyer (and animals) Beware: the cages in which these animals exhibit-after-hand the samples indicated with letters that advertise the “papers” for the countless dogs for sale, for example, whether to often little rusty. Several animals are crushed together, often in small cages and don ‘t always have water available, even in the heat of summer. But if the sight of men carrying 20 pounds of onions packed off completely from live chickens or ducks doesn ‘baby; t inconvenience you, this is the place to buy some fresh poultry. (You can avoid the “livestock” area altogether-it ’s in the rear of the site, but the puppies are sold through the market.) This is a good place to buy product, but for items like strawberries that aren ‘t grown in the state, it’ s worthy of close inspection of them come from the same batches your local grocery store chain is getting, and the prices aren ‘t necessarily better here. But the abundant sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, peaches, and more locally grown food can be a treat

This day is not only important, it’s the biggest day of celebration in the Christian belief. Our Leader is alive and sits on the right hand of God, the father who gives to all believers who have accepted as their savior with eternal life. Last week detected a renewed interest in Christian belief as seen on Good Friday and hopefully it will grow in the future. We don ‘t need for the holiday mandated to show the world we are believers. “The Lions In Their Dens Tremble at His Approach”

John A. Lynn, professor of history at the University of Illinois, recently sent this group email to a number of his former grad students and present colleagues, including me:

Hi,

It never rains but it pours, I guess. While in Germany at the meeting of the International Commission of Military History, I learned that in coordination with his throne day, July 31, King Mohammed VI of Morocco chose to award me an order, a decoration, the Ouissam Al Alaoui. The order comes in five grades, the highest being the Grand Cross that George Patton received (the scene is in the movie). I will get that of commander, which is above knight and officer. (My palmes adcademiques is at knight.) Why I am being singled out for such an honor still mystifies me a bit. Since I am not a scholar of Moroccan history, the rationale seems to be my general scholarly standing, my role as president of the US Commission on Military History, my defense of Arabic in the International Commission, and my work with the Moroccan commission of military history. The king was also touched, I am told, by the fact that we have “adopted” a Moroccan family.

This whole thing has left me a bit dizzy, because I had no inkling of it until we arrived in Berlin. . . . Andi [that is, Andrea Lynn, John's wife] and I will go to Morocco to receive the order in October or November.

You will find a picture of the order attached. The cross says in Arabic “There is no God but Allah, and Mohammed is his Prophet,” but I have no particular problem with that. Given my disdain for [current] U.S. foreign policy, it will be an honor to represent a moderate Arab country.

Andrea asked me if I now have enough external validation.

Songwriter Ben Bernie was a popular bandleader of the late '20s and '30s who is best known as the composer of "Sweet Georgia Brown." Born Benjamin Anzelwitz in N.Y.C., 1891, he studied at the NY College of Music, CCNY, and Columbia School of Mines. Before the 1920s, Bernie performed monologues and played the violin in vaudeville, teaming up with Phil Baker for awhile. Bernie formed a dance band in 1922 and within a few years earned increasing popularity with recordings and radio play. Pianist/arranger Al Goering was a force through most of his band's career, and the early lineup also included trumpeter Bill "Jazz" Moore and saxophonist Jack Pettis. Later lineups included the alto saxophonist Dick Stabile in the early '30s, and the more swinging arrangements of Gray Rains in the late '30s. Bernie got his own radio series, and became known for his sense of humor and trademark expression, "Yowsah, Yowsah!" He named himself "the Old Maestro" and called his band Ben Bernie & All the Lads. During the 1930s, Bernie also had a long-running "feud" with columnist Walter Winchell, leading to the duo co-starring in the films Wake Up and Live (1937) and Love and Hisses (1938). Bernie had acted in a Broadway production before this, 1928's +Here's Howe. His band played at the Chicago World's Fair in 1933; appeared in the movies Shoot the Works (1934) and Stolen Harmony (1935); and recorded for the Brunswick, Columbia, and Vocalion labels, among others. Ben Bernie co-wrote "Sweet Georgia Brown," "Strange Interlude," "I Can't Believe It's True," "Who's Your Little Who Zis," and others, including "Pretty Little Baby" and "I Can't Forget That You Forgot About Me." ~ Joslyn Layne, All Music Guide

the office heavy competition

the office heavy competition

This was just an awful lot of fun. I tend to find Michael and Dwight episodes too uncomfortable at times, because putting the show's two broadest major characters together tends to make them each more cartoonish than usual. But by putting Michael and Dwight at odds, it forced both characters to be just human enough for the story and the jokes to breath.

It also made the occasional broader moments (Dwight stripping down to show he wasn't wearing a wire, Dwight screaming, incredulous, "ARE YOU SAYING YOU INVENTED PAPER?!?!?!?!?" into his cell phone) work better, because they came in contrast to the quieter jokes (like the long pause before Michael accepted that Dwight was talking about him, or the miserable look on Michael's face as he bit into the terrible meatball parm sandwich Dwight set him up to eat), and in an episode where both characters were mostly at the top of their game as salesmen and competitors. I was glad to hear Dwight make a good counter-argument to Mr. Schofield when he barged in, and even gladder to hear Michael quickly turn that around on him, and even gladder to hear Michael's explanation of his hilarious color-coding scheme, which mostly meant that he should shut up about the personal details.

I've been enjoying this season in pretty much all of its phases (Holly, post-Holly), but the Michael Scott Paper Company arc has really kicked things up a notch. The only way it could get any better would be if Michael found a way to hire Holly as his HR rep.

chartbeat

Chartbeat enables you to see what's happening on your site in real-time. You can see how many people are visiting your site, what they are doing and how they are interacting with your content as it happens.

I've had a new analytics service called Chartbeat running on this blog for a while now. You haven't seen it until recently when I put this widget on my right sidebar.

Prediction: Cisco announces Skype acquisition?

The cool thing about Chartbeat is that the stats are real-time. They tell me what is going on right now. If you click on the button on the upper right sidebar that says "Traffic Stats", you'll get a page that looks like this:
Traffic stats

I publish all the publicly available stats on this blog that I normally track (I wish I could do this with Google Analytics but can't or don't know how). The top link on that page is now Chartbeat so anytime you want to see what is going on here in real-time, you can click on it. This is what you'll see:

There's actually a lot more data on the page (and the additional tabs) but that's all that I could capture with my screengrab.

Chartbeat combines a very slick and appealing UI with lots of real-time data that I've never been able to get on this blog until now.
