oscar schindler

oscar schindler
"Schindler's secretariat and office - two rooms connected with each other will be dedicated to Schindler's history, his stay in Kraków, organisation of the factory and his role in the rescue of over 1100 Jews. The secretariat is a strictly documentary area, presenting the complete story of Oscar Schindler. The office is a more symbolic place, a vivid artistic metaphor of Oscar Schindler's deed and its phenomenon. To the arrangement belong the original map and desk, filled with authentic documents (or their copies), items connected with the Factory owner. The main object is a high (reaching the ceiling) glass quadrangle which from the outside appears to be jam-packed with with metal pans pressed in the Factory. However, one can get into it from two sides - into a small circular area - where on a metal wall enclosing the interior of the object, names of the Survivors rescued by Schindler are inscribed. The names are whispered from the speakers. There are thousands of photographs of people from Kraków's ghetto placed on the other walls in the office. The visitor can stop for a while and contemplate the nature and the scale of Schindler's deed; he can also put himself in Schindler's shoes and choose - when you have to arrive at the decision - who can be rescued, who cannot." (Description of future museum arrangement, planned for opening in late 2009).
