Even as Karuna Waghela, widow of 26/11 victim Thakur Waghela, was finding
it tough to adjust to her single-working-mother status, she faced the additional burden last week of having to pay school fees of her three children. But help came from unexpected quarters – three Australians, who saw her featured on their news channel, pitched in with Rs 25,000.On November 26, 2008, Mohammad Ajmal Qasab rushed into the lane behind G T Hospital, and gunned down 33-year-old sweeper Waghela, in the hospital quarters. Waghela’s family was compensated with Rs 5 lakh by the government. But due to differences, her in-laws retained the entire money, while she opted to leave home and fend for herself and her children.
